Oil palm is a kind of crop with high economic value. As an example, it is an economic crop in many countries, especially in Southeast Asia. The harvest of oil palm led to a large amount of biomass and waste. Biomass and waste are produced in a variety of forms, including harvested palm trunks, palm leaves from daily pruning, hollow bundles, shells, fibers, and effluents from processing whole fruit bundles. A large amount of biomass and waste materials such as leaves can be made into efficient organic fertilizer by fertilizer production machine.

The unique biological characteristics of oil palm:

1) The result period is long and the oil content is high. The oil palm began to bear fruit in the third year after planting, and entered the peak production period in 6-7 years, and the economic life span was 20-25 years. The oil content of oil palm fruit is more than 50%.

2) It is adaptable and easy to manage. Oil palm can grow in arid and barren areas with less diseases and insect pests, high crown coverage and stability.

3) It has the advantages of low production cost, extensive management, convenient operation and long term return on investment.

Method of making organic fertilizer by reusing palm waste

Similar to the treatment of biomass and waste materials of date palm, oil palm is simply accumulated in the area around the harvest site, where the biomass and waste materials can rot or decompose over a longer period of time. This method is generally unsatisfactory when the biomass and waste materials accumulate faster than they decay.

Although plant waste, filter cake (or plant filter mud) and washing waste have been converted into useful by-products, such as fertilizers, fuels, animal feed and biogas, most of the biomass and waste generated from the harvested oil palms have not been treated in a satisfactory manner. For example, the most common way to treat biomass and waste is combustion. The combustion of biomass and waste materials causes a lot of pollution and is considered unsatisfactory. Many countries (including Indonesia and Malaysia) now prohibit the burning of oil palm biomass and waste.
